It’s that time of year again and everyone is making resolutions. “I’m going to lose weight.” “I’m going to stop smoking.” “I’m going to exercise more.” The list goes on and on but the struggle to keep resolutions remains the same. I think the reason that resolutions are so hard to keep is because we tend to make a resolution based on what society thinks we should be and not what we want for ourselves. Society tells us we need to be a certain weight or do a certain amount of exercise or a certain type of exercise. Society tells us not to smoke or drink or do anything that might damage our bodies. Believe me, I’m not saying that there’s not evidence to support some of these things but really look at the resolution you’re making. Are you making the resolution because you really want to change for YOURSELF or are you wanting to change because you think everyone else thinks you should?
Here’s the thing….
Instead of resolving to change for the world, resolve to change a habit for yourself. Maybe that habit is not taking enough time for yourself. Maybe it’s not giving yourself enough credit. Resolve to love yourself where you’re at but also love yourself enough to not stay stagnant. Improve your physical health for YOU. Improve your mental health for YOU. Love yourself more in 2020.
Happy New Year.
